Nice cozy hotel at Batu Burok Beach. Basic but comfortable. Rates start from RM135, promotion RM90. Swimming pool, restaurant, volleyball net, beach football. The Batu Burok sea is probably too wavy to swim but it’s good for fresh air and to see the sunrise. WIFI.
BONUS: Good value. About half the price of resorts on the islands. Quite nice to surf the net by the beach on my laptop. No power points though. Then again, why was I surfing the net at the beach? That’s a long story.

Located about 10 minutes drive from the town centre and another 30 minutes to beaches. Comfortable, clean double-storey terrace house turned into a hostel. I stayed there when it was off-season so I had the master bedroom to myself. It has three double-beds and is usually a dormitory. There are three other rooms with a single shared bathroom. WIFI, Internet, TV, VCD/DVD player, Astro (Cable TV), Cooking facilities, Utensils.
BONUS: They will pick you up from any point in Kota Bahru to the guesthouse. Also very friendly and helpful.
